The Hole

The Hole is a shanty town, a run down, neglected hovel, and home to any non-elves desiring to take up residence near the best trading hub in either kingdom. Their price for restricted access to such fertile grounds is forced residence in the Hole. Officially recognized as a self governing merchant’s camp, the Hole is an unregulated den of murder, theft and corruption.
It was not always so. Originally, the camp was established as a place for foreigners to gather when not allowed inside Kiraniir. There they were allowed their to run their trade and other business as they saw fit. More entrepreneurial persons even settled permanently, establishing small business out of large, connected tents. In time, small gangs formed, running protection rackets and night time burglary. While some tried to act as militia security forces, these too were eventually corrupted, now acting like thugs and muscle for the various gangs.
Nowadays, two forces are at silent war in the small town. A group known as the Scars. They are made up of half-elves who have suffered the worst of the wars between humans and elves, finding safe and trusted havens few and far between. So bitter have they become that they have cast off their ties to either race, and now act as cruel, brutal enforcers of their will in the Hole. The second force is the 6th Division of Guard of Kiraniir. They mind the main road through the Hole under the pretense that the road is part of the trade route leading into Kiraniir and thus under the rightful protection of the city. It is the only safe place in entire town. They also make random patrols through the large camp, making sure ‘their land’ is being maintained well.
